T.E.S.S. and TETRA in Oman

Oman flagPublic Transportation

The service provider for Oman's airports provides the outdoor and indoor radio communication service for administrative and security communication of all airport servicing organizations (except Air-to-Ground communication) and all airlines. The MPT system was to be extended by a modern, state-of-the-art communication system, and hence complemented by a TETRA radio system. One of the main design features was the seamless interoperation between the existing analogue MPT radio system and the upcoming TETRA system. The challenge for TESS' project team consisted in finding the correct antenna design to not alter the MPT coverage but add the same coverage for the TETRA system, and in affecting the existing service as minimal as possible.

TESS was awarded with the complete project management including the TETRA system installation, implementation and training. Thanks to the excellently trained and skilled TESS engineers and TESS technicians, the project was swiftly implemented with high efficiency and within the contractual timeframe. TESS is providing consultancy support for further expansion and maintenance.

Oman - Oil and Gas Industry

The TETRA system was implemented to provide voice communication for production administration and safety, while data transmission functionality is built-in for addition of later applications. The coverage area was defined by the existing communication network, and during the TETRA implementation extended to newly created exploration and production facilities. The 40MHz analogue system and the TETRA system were to cooperate until the final switch-over. In addition, the separately used analogue marine radio and air-to-ground radio must be interfaced for seamless intercommunication with the TETRA system.

The most sites are powered from solar power supply.

The continuing efforts of TESS consulting engineers resulted in a successful implementation and handover of the TETRA system to the technical department. Meanwhile they are relying on the flawless operation of the TETRA communication network for their day-to-day oil and gas production. TESS is still engaged in the consultation for extension and improvement as well as maintenance of the network.
